Jaishankar: Uri, Balakot Strikes Indias Response to Western Terrorism

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the Pandit Hriday Nath Kunzru Memorial Lecture 2024 on Bharat and the World at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi on Monday, February 26. During his speech, Jaishankar highlighted India's response to rising terrorism on the West front, particularly the Uri and Balakot strikes.

Jaishankar emphasized that the Uri and Balakot strikes served as a fitting reply to terrorism, sending a clear message to the world. He asserted that India's actions demonstrated its determination to combat terrorism effectively.
National Security Developments
Jaishankar also discussed developments in India's national security strategies. He noted that India has sought to rectify the long neglect of border infrastructure, leading to more effective defense of the nation. This was evident during the challenges faced on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, where India's rapid and effective counter deployments provided an appropriate response.
Socio-Economic Issues and Self-Reliance
Jaishankar touched upon the socio-economic issues in Ukraine and Afghanistan, emphasizing that India's achievements and initiatives towards self-reliance serve as a source of motivation. He highlighted various aspects of the ongoing transformation, including upgrading skills, promoting talent and innovation, simplifying business processes, and supporting national products.
India's Strengthening Global Footprint
Jaishankar discussed India's strengthening global footprint, noting the progress made in the economic and political re-balancing of the global order. He pointed out that the G20 has surpassed the G7, and new groupings and mechanisms have emerged. The list of the world's top economies has changed, with India itself moving up six positions in the last decade.
