India reports 9,629 fresh Covid cases today, 44% higher than yesterday

India on Wednesday saw a rise in Covid-19 cases with a total of 9,629 fresh infections registered in 24 hours, 44 per cent more than yesterday, data shared by the Health Ministry stated.

With 29 new fatalities, the death count rose to 5,31,398. The total case tally is at 4,43,11,078, the data showed.

Of the 29 deaths, Delhi reported six fatalities, followed by three each in Maharashtra and Rajasthan, two fatalities in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, and one each in Odisha, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. Kerala has reported a total of 10 reconciled Covid deaths.

Kerala, Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh continue to contribute to the overall case tally with the most number of infections.

The daily positivity rate stood at 5.38 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 5.61 per cent.

The active cases account for 0.14 per cent of the total infections, while the Covid-19 recovery rate stood at 98.68 per cent, the ministry said.

The number of people who have recovered from covid surged to 4,43,23, 045 while the case fatality rate stood at 1.18 per cent.

Nearly 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far, according to the heath ministry. The nationwide Covid-19 vaccination began on 16 January 2021.
