Union Minister Jitendra Singh Reflects on the Loss of Renowned Academician Manmohan Singh
Union minister Jitendra Singh expressed his condolences on Thursday over the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He remarked that India has lost a distinguished figure who gained international acclaim. "Today I have the conviction to say that more than a former Prime Minister, India has lost a multifaceted personality… an academician who earned global recognition, an economist who went down in history for giving a different turn to economic culture in India," he stated on X.

Dr Manmohan Singh, aged 92, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. He was originally from Jhelum district, now located in Pakistan. Dr Singh was one of the last prominent leaders shaped by the significant events during the Partition of the Indian subcontinent.
Legacy of Leadership
The Union Minister of State for Personnel highlighted Dr Singh's tenure as a statesman. For a decade, he led a Congress government marred by numerous scandals and scams. Despite this, there was never any direct accusation against him personally.
Jitendra Singh fondly remembered Dr Singh as a gentleman who often disregarded protocol. He would personally escort his guests to their vehicles. "May I say this with all the humility at my command, on one occasion, I too was privileged to receive this courtesy from him, much to my embarrassment," he shared.
A Life of Accomplishments
Dr Manmohan Singh's career spanned various roles, including that of an academic and economist. His contributions significantly altered India's economic landscape. He is remembered for his intellectual prowess and leadership qualities that earned him respect globally.
The minister's tribute reflects the deep respect and admiration many had for Dr Singh's character and achievements. His legacy as a leader and scholar continues to inspire many across the nation.
