India to Convene Third Voice of Global South Summit on Sustainable Future
India is set to host the third Voice of Global South Summit virtually on August 17, aiming to advocate for a sustainable future for developing nations. This summit will build on discussions from previous meetings, addressing issues like conflicts, food and energy security crises, and climate change that impact the Global South.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that the summit's theme will be "An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future." This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas" and India's philosophy of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," meaning the world is one family.
Summit Structure and Participation
The third edition aims to unite countries from the Global South to share their perspectives and priorities on various issues. The summit will continue discussions on challenges, priorities, and solutions for the Global South, particularly in the developmental domain. The MEA stated that the event would be structured into Leaders' Sessions and ministerial sessions.
The inaugural session will feature heads of state or government and will be hosted by Prime Minister Modi. The previous editions saw participation from over 100 countries from the Global South. Both earlier summits were also held virtually, with the first on January 12-13 last year and the second on November 17 last year.
Impact on G-20 Summit
Inputs and feedback from leaders of developing countries during the first two summits influenced the agenda and discussions of the G-20 Summit under India's presidency last year. These contributions were reflected in the New Delhi Leaders Declaration.
The third Voice of Global South Summit continues this tradition, providing a platform for developing nations to voice their concerns and collaborate on solutions. The focus remains on fostering sustainable development and addressing pressing global issues collectively.
India's hosting of this summit underscores its commitment to leading discussions on global challenges affecting developing nations. The virtual format ensures broad participation, enabling leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue despite geographical barriers.
The upcoming summit promises to further strengthen cooperation among Global South countries, promoting shared goals and mutual support in tackling common challenges. This initiative highlights India's role in championing the interests of developing nations on the global stage.
The event's emphasis on sustainability aligns with global efforts to address climate change and ensure food and energy security. By bringing together diverse voices from the Global South, the summit aims to foster inclusive and equitable solutions for a better future.
India's leadership in hosting these summits demonstrates its dedication to creating a platform for dialogue and collaboration among developing countries. The third Voice of Global South Summit is poised to continue this legacy, driving progress towards a sustainable and empowered future for all participating nations.
