India Heatwave Forecast: Red Alerts Issued by IMD for Rajasthan, Delhi Braces for Scorching Week

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for parts of Rajasthan and warned of heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in several states across the country this week. On Sunday, the maximum temperature in Delhi touched 38.2°C, about three degrees above the seasonal average, as large parts of northwestern India continued to reel under intense heat.

According to the IMD, parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh will experience extreme temperatures over the next few days.

Monday:
Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are very likely over Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat and West Rajasthan. Isolated areas in East Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh are also expected to witness heatwave conditions. Hot and humid weather is likely in coastal Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa.

Tuesday:
Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue in some parts of Rajasthan. Isolated pockets of Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh may also be affected.

Wednesday:
Eastern Rajasthan could see heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets. Heatwave conditions are also expected in Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West UP, and Madhya Pradesh.

Thursday:
Isolated areas in Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh are likely to experience heatwave conditions.

Alerts in Place:

A red alert has been issued for West Rajasthan on Monday, warning of potential heat-related illnesses or heat strokes. A yellow alert has been issued for Delhi on Monday and Tuesday, cautioning residents about heat-related symptoms, especially for those exposed to the sun for prolonged periods or involved in outdoor work.

The IMD has advised people to avoid direct exposure to the sun, stay hydrated, and take adequate precautions to prevent dehydration or heatstroke.
