India to Provide Quality Healthcare for Seniors Over 70: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that his government is dedicated to providing accessible, affordable, and high-quality healthcare for all Indians. This statement followed the Union Cabinet's approval of health coverage for individuals aged 70 and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, regardless of their income. This initiative will benefit approximately six crore senior citizens.

The Rs 5-lakh free health insurance cover will assist senior citizens from around 4.5 crore families. Eligible beneficiaries will receive a new distinct card under the scheme. "We are committed to ensuring accessible, affordable, and top-quality healthcare for every Indian. In this context, the Cabinet today has decided to further expand the ambit of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY to provide health coverage for all citizens above 70 years," Modi stated in a post on X.
Boosting Green Mobility
Modi also highlighted the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, which aims to enhance green mobility and contribute to a sustainable future. The PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) scheme is expected to increase participation in the sector and promote sustainability. The Union Cabinet approved two significant schemes with a combined outlay of Rs 14,335 crore to encourage the use of electric vehicles, including buses, ambulances, and trucks.
The PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme has an allocation of Rs 10,900 crore over two years. The PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) scheme has a budget of Rs 3,435 crore. These initiatives are designed to support the development and adoption of electric vehicles across various sectors.
Hydropower Development
The Union Cabinet also sanctioned an outlay of Rs 12,461 crore for the development of 31,350 MW hydropower projects over the next eight years. Modi mentioned in another post that these modifications in the hydroelectric projects scheme would enhance infrastructure development in remote areas. "It will accelerate Hydro Power growth, create jobs, and drive investments in the sector," he said.
In addition to these initiatives, Modi praised the Cabinet's decision regarding Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV. He noted that it would significantly improve connectivity and rural infrastructure. "The Cabinet decision regarding Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV will boost development and create many employment opportunities," he stated on X.
Climate Science and Services
Modi also mentioned that the Cabinet's approval of Mission Mausam would strengthen capacities in climate-related science and services. This initiative is expected to benefit agriculture, disaster management apparatus, and other related sectors. "It will benefit agriculture, disaster management apparatus and other such sectors," Modi said.
These decisions reflect the government's commitment to improving healthcare access, promoting sustainable transportation, enhancing hydropower infrastructure, boosting rural connectivity, and advancing climate science capabilities.
