India Condemns Pro-Khalistani Attack On Hindu Devotees In Canada: Rising Extremism Sparks Concern

India has condemned an attack by a pro-Khalistani mob on Hindu devotees outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton, Canada.

This violent disruption occurred during a consular camp event organized in collaboration with the temple, near Toronto. This is a shocking incident that has stirred concerns over rising extremism in Canada where Elections are just around the corner.

According to a statement by the Indian consulate, the attack was reportedly carried out by anti-India elements. "In light of the security concerns in Canada, we had requested the Canadian authorities to ensure strong security measures at such events, which are a part of routine consular work," the consulate said. Despite these requests, an armed mob, identified as pro-Khalistani, allegedly assaulted devotees with sticks, and videos of the incident circulating online reveal disturbing scenes, including women and children among those attacked.

The Hindu Canadian Foundation, a community non-profit, voiced their shock on social media, condemning the violence and urging the authorities for stronger action.

Canadian lawmaker Chandra Arya, a member of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party, has also expressed outrage, labelling the attack as a "crossing of the red line" by Khalistani extremists. Arya pointed to a trend of brazen violence by these fringe groups, adding to a concerning pattern of escalating hostility against the Hindu community in Canada.

This incident follows a string of similar attacks over the past few years, particularly targeting Hindu temples. In July, Arya had previously raised alarm about vandalism and hate-motivated acts directed toward Hindu-Canadian communities. In one of his posts, he highlighted the repeated targeting of the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton, which was defaced with hateful graffiti.

Other temples across the Greater Toronto Area and British Columbia have also been subjected to such attacks, underscoring a troubling rise in religious intolerance. As tensions escalate, Hindu organizations and leaders are urging Canadian authorities to take firm action against extremism to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.

Notably, there have been assaults on the Hindu community earlier also. But this time the intensity of the assault was much higher and that too around elections. Could Khalistanis be afraid that Trudeau might lose this time? What do you feel about this recent attack?
