INDIA Bloc Names Sudarshan Reddy As Vice Presidential Candidate

Former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy is named INDIA alliance candidate for the Vice President post.

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge made the announcement on Tuesday. He said, "B. Sudershan Reddy is one of India's most distinguished and progressive jurists. He has had a long and eminent legal career, including as judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court and Judge of the Supreme Court.

He has been a consistent and courageous champion of social, economic and political justice. He is a poor man and many judgments if you read, will know that how he favored the poor people and also protected the Constitution and fundamental rights."

Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge confirmed that the Aam Aadmi Party also supports Reddy's nomination. He is scheduled to file his nomination on Thursday, August 21.

Reddy, born on July 8, 1946, has a distinguished legal career, having served as a Supreme Court judge from 2007 to 2011 and as the chief justice of the Gauhati High Court. He enrolled as an advocate in 1971.

On INDIA alliance VP nominee former Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy, RSP MP N.K. Premachandran says, "The strong message we would like to deliver to the public at large is that the entire Opposition is united. Immediately after the announcement of this candidate, YSR Congress and AAP have extended their support to this candidate. It is a political and ideological contest between the NDA and the INDIA alliance."

On the other hand, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has C. Radhakrishnan, the current Governor of Maharashtra and a veteran BJP leader, as their candidate.

Radhakrishnan, who has a long career in public service, is expected to file his nomination on the evening of August 19. His nomination is viewed as a strategic move to strengthen the BJP's presence in South India.

The election, necessitated by the resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21 due to health reasons, will see members of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha cast their votes on September 9.
