INDIA Bloc MPs Meet Over Floor Strategy On Women’s Quota And Delimitation Bills

The Opposition INDIA bloc is set to hold a key strategy meeting in Parliament on Friday morning as the Lok Sabha prepares to resume discussion and voting on a set of politically significant bills, including the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

The meeting of INDIA bloc MPs is scheduled for 10 am at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's chamber in Parliament, where leaders are expected to coordinate their floor strategy ahead of Day 2 of the debate in the Lower House.

INDIA bloc to meet before crucial Lok Sabha debate

The strategy session comes at a crucial stage as the Lok Sabha is set to continue discussion and vote on the passage of the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026.

Alongside the women's reservation legislation, the House is also taking up the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which proposes to extend the 33 per cent quota to Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. The Delimitation Bill is also on the agenda, with the proposed exercise expected to increase and redraw Lok Sabha constituencies, taking the total number of seats up to 850.

The coordinated meeting is aimed at helping opposition parties settle a common stand on these politically sensitive proposals before proceedings begin.

Focus on women's quota bill and delimitation push

Friday's discussion is part of the second day of deliberations in the Lok Sabha over the proposed amendment to the women's quota law and the wider delimitation exercise.

The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026 has emerged as one of the most closely watched measures in the ongoing special session, given its proposal to reserve one-third seats for women in Parliament and state legislatures.

At the same time, the Delimitation Bill has triggered intense political interest as it could significantly reshape representation in the Lok Sabha by expanding the House and redrawing constituency boundaries across the country.

INDIA bloc held meeting earlier today ahead of Day 2

Before Friday's scheduled Parliament strategy session, INDIA bloc MPs had already met at 10 am to discuss their approach ahead of the start of Day 2 of the Lok Sabha discussions on the amendment of the women's quota bill and the Delimitation Bill.

The back-to-back consultations underline the opposition's effort to remain aligned as the debate enters a decisive phase in the House.

BJD joins opposition meeting for the first time

In a notable development, the Opposition INDIA bloc held a meeting ahead of Day 2 of the special session of Parliament, and for the first time, the BJD also took part in the discussions.

The BJD's participation is being seen as a significant addition to the opposition's coordination efforts as parties assess how to respond to the government's push on the women's reservation framework and the proposed delimitation changes.
