Bypoll Results: INDIA Bloc Takes BJP By Storm, Secures Victory In 10 Out Of 13 Key Assembly Seats
The INDIA alliance, which posed a major challenge to the BJP in Lok Sabha elections, has emerged victorious in the bypolls for 13 Assembly seats across seven states. The alliance has secured 10 seats, while BJP managed to bag only 2.

In Punjab, AAP's Mohinder Bhagat triumphed in Jalandhar West by over 23,000 votes. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress candidates are leading in four constituencies in West Bengal, with BJP trailing behind.
Key Wins Across States
Himachal Pradesh saw Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's wife Kamlesh Thakur winning her first election in Dehra. Besides this, Congress is leading in Nalagarh, while BJP's Ashish Sharma is ahead in Hamirpur.
In Uttarakhand, Congress candidates have taken the lead in both Badrinath and Manglaur seats. In Madhya Pradesh, Congress's Dheeran Shah Invati has a lead of over 4,000 votes in Amarwar.
Other Major Leads
In Bihar, JD(U)'s Kaladhar Prasad Mandal is leading in Rupauli. In Tamil Nadu, DMK's Anniyur Siva is ahead by more than 10,000 votes in Vikravandi.
The vote counting for these 13 legislative assembly seats began on Saturday morning. Voting took place on Wednesday across Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.
Context of Recent Elections
These bypolls are the first since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections where BJP won 240 seats—32 short of a majority. However, the NDA crossed the halfway mark with a total of 293 seats. The Congress-led INDIA bloc secured 232 seats.
The results reflect a strong performance by the INDIA alliance across multiple states. This could indicate shifting political dynamics as parties prepare for future elections.
