INDIA Bloc Partners with Left, Congress to Launch Campaign Committee for Tripura Polls
In a significant political development in Agartala on March 20, the Left parties and the Congress, integral components of the opposition coalition INDIA, announced the formation of a committee aimed at orchestrating joint campaigns for the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Tripura. This strategic move underscores their collective endeavor to challenge the BJP-led NDA's dominance in the region. The committee, comprising 25 members, will be jointly helmed by CPIM legislator Jitendra Chaudhury and seasoned Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman.

During a press briefing, Roy Barman elucidated the committee's mission to spearhead the opposition bloc's campaign efforts for the Lok Sabha elections. He highlighted the establishment of similar committees at district and sub-division levels to ensure seamless coordination throughout the campaign. Roy Barman's appeal to voters emphasized critical contemplation of the nation's current predicaments before casting their ballots.
The opposition leaders did not hold back in their critique of the NDA candidate for East Tripura, Kriti Singh Debbarma, questioning her allegiance to Tripura's populace due to her upbringing in Meghalaya's Shillong. Roy Barman accused her of failing to fulfill promises made to achieve Greater Tipraland, predicting a strong electoral response from the tribal community.
Chaudhury reinforced the Left Front's commitment to a united front with Congress in the parliamentary elections, indicating a series of joint rallies for nomination submissions by INDIA bloc candidates. The schedule for these submissions includes Ratan Das for the Ramnagar assembly seat on March 22, Asish Kumar Saha for West Tripura Lok Sabha seat on March 27, and Rajendra Reang for East Tripura Lok Sabha seat on March 28.
Roy Barman also touched upon the ideological congruence between the two parties concerning secularism and democracy, despite existing differences. He criticized Tipra Motha for abandoning its promises to tribal people in pursuit of power. This statement comes in the wake of Chief Minister Manik Saha's remarks attributing Tipra Motha's alliance with his government to their realization that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi could advance indigenous people's development.
This collaboration between the Left parties and Congress within the INDIA bloc represents a strategic alignment aimed at consolidating opposition efforts against the BJP-led NDA in Tripura. With both parties setting aside ideological disparities to focus on common goals, this partnership could potentially reshape Tripura's political landscape in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
