Increase in representation of minorities in govt jobs: Centre

New Delhi, Feb 24: There has been an increase in representation of minorities in government jobs during the past three years, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said today.

"The percentage of representation of minorities in government job in 2012-13 was 6.91, in 2013-14 was 7.89 and in 2014-15 is 8.70," he said in a written reply to a query in Lok Sabha, without mentioning their exact number.

'More minorities in govt jobs now'

There were about 37 lakh sanctioned government posts, as on March 1, 2013, the Minister said.

As per data uploaded by ministries, the percentage of representation of Scheduled Caste categories in government jobs as on January 1, 2012 was 17.48, as on January 1, 2013 was 17.55 and as on January 1, 2014 is 16.55, said Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. The percentage of representation of Scheduled Tribe categories in government job as on January 1, 2012 was 7.65, as on January 1, 2013 was 7.72 and as on January 1, 2014 is 8.56, he said.

The percentage of representation of people from Other Backward Classes in government job as on January 1, 2012 was 16.96, as on January 1, 2013 is 17.71 and as on January 1, 2014 is 19.75, the Minister said. "The figures indicate that there is a general increase in the trend of recruitment of persons from the aforesaid categories," said Singh.
