Rs 800 Crore Tax Evasion Revealed After IT Raids on Samajwadi Leader Azam Khan
After conducting raids for three days at the residence and other associated premises of senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, the Income Tax department suspects him of evading taxes worth more than Rs 800 crore.
The Income Tax department of India has reportedly identified a tax evasion case amounting to more than Rs 800 crore ($108 million) involving senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. The discovery was made following extensive raids conducted on Khan and his associates over a three-day period, according to official sources.
Income Tax Raid at Khan's Residence

Tax investigators arrived at Khan's residence on Jail Road in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh around 7 am on Wednesday and concluded their search by Friday evening. After the officials vacated his residence around 7 pm on Friday, Khan emerged to address the situation. "It was a raid of I-T department. They stayed here for three days. They conducted searches and asked questions," he stated, declining to answer further inquiries.
Multiple Raids Across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh
In addition to Rampur, the Income Tax Department carried out raids at over 30 locations across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on September 13 as part of its investigation into Khan’s alleged tax evasion activities. Official sources confirmed that these operations took place in Saharanpur, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Meerut in Uttar Pradesh as well as several premises in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh.
Raided Premises Include Those Belonging To Close Associates
Among the raided properties was a house located in Rajnagar Colony in Ghaziabad which belongs to Ekta Kaushik who is known to be closely associated with Khan's family. These systematic operations are part of an ongoing probe into suspected large-scale tax evasion linked with the senior Samajwadi Party leader.
The scale of these operations underscores the seriousness with which Indian authorities are addressing allegations of financial misconduct among political leaders. It also signifies an intensified effort towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the nation's political and economic affairs.
Implications of The Investigation
While this investigation is still ongoing, its outcomes could have significant implications for Khan and his political career. If found guilty, he may face severe penalties including hefty fines or even imprisonment. Beyond personal consequences, it could also impact the reputation of the Samajwadi Party which has been grappling with several controversies in recent times.
In conclusion, these raids signify a firm commitment by Indian authorities to uphold financial integrity and transparency among high-profile individuals and institutions. They serve as a stern reminder that nobody is above the law regardless of their social or political standing. As investigations continue into Azam Khan's alleged tax evasion activities, all eyes will be on how this case unfolds and what it means for India's fight against corruption.
