Inauguration Of New Parliament Building And What An Opportunity The Opposition Missed

India witnessed a historic event on Sunday, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building.

The Opposition on the other hand denied to boycott the event. Many experts, with whom OneIndia spoke with said that this is a missed opportunity for the Opposition parties. For Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the Opposition, it was truly a missed opportunity as he had a slot where he would have had an address.

Inauguration Of New Parliament Building And What An Opportunity The Opposition Missed

The Prime Minister during his address, not once did mention the word Opposition or boycott. The entire speech was focused on the 'India First Mantra.'

The PM also focused on the 'mantra' of India's civilisation and culture. The installation of the Sengol was also a historic moment for India.

By boycotting the event, the Opposition handed the entire event to the ruling party. The Congress too missed an opportunity. Had it not boycotted the event, it would have been given an opportunity to speak in Parliament during which it could have dedicated an entire speech to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The party could have spoken about how the first PM helped lay the foundation of democracy in the country.

Furthermore, the boycott has not gone down too well with the electorate as many feel that politicising such an even was not the need of the hour. At the end of it, the people saw it as an India event and not a BJP event. In terms of what history would say, it was truly a missed opportunity for the Opposition.
