In Uttar Pradesh, the Grand Alliance remains a non-starter
Nitish Kumar of the JD(U) will skip the silver jubilee celebrations of the Samajwadi Party to be held on November 5
New Delhi, Nov 2: The grand alliance in Uttar Pradesh may just be a non-starter. Mulayam Singh Yadav who had floated this idea following a bitter war within his family is finding it hard to stitch up an alliance.
It is now confirmed that Nitish Kumar of the JD(U) will skip the silver jubilee celebrations of the Samajwadi Party to be held on November 5.
Many others who were invited too are apprrehensive about being part of the alliance. It would be a wait and watch policy for many who were invited to be part of the celebrations.
Mulayam Singh had invited several leaders for the event and this was a signal of whom he wanted to be part of the grand alliance.
Grand Alliance in UP: Wait there are many twists to the tale
Several leaders are apprehensive for now. They would wait and watch how the affairs within the Samajwadi Party would shape up. For one most of these leaders are apprehensive as Mulayam had walked out of the secular alliance ahead of the Bihar elections.
Secondly these leaders would prefer to back Akhilesh Yadav. They feel that he has a better image and hence backing him would make more sense. It is wait and watch for now.
Sources say that many would join the alliance without any hesitation if Akhilesh comes out of the SP and forms his own party. If he does not then they would want an assurance that he will be the face of the SP ahead of the UP polls.
