In poll bound Karnataka, 76 MLAs have pending criminal cases against them
In the current Karnataka Assembly there are 76 MLAs who have pending criminal cases against them.
Out of the 219 sitting MLAs analysed by the Association for Democratic Reforms(ADR) and Karnataka Election Watch, 76 have pending criminal cases, while 56 of them have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

The report says that in the current assembly 2 seats are vacant and 3 MLAs were not analysed as their affidavits were not available.
The total strength of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly is 224.
Criminal background:
MLAs with criminal cases: Out of 219 sitting MLAs analysed, 76 (35 per cent) MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves.
MLAs with serious criminal cases: 56 (26 per cent) MLAs have declared serious criminal cases.
MLAs with declared cases related to attempt to murder: 4 MLAs have declared cases related to attempt to murder (IPC section 307).
Party wise sitting MLAs with criminal cases: 49 (42 per cent) out of 118 MLAs from BJP, 16 (24 per cent) out of 67 MLAs from INC, 9 (30 per cent) out of 30 MLAs from JD(S) and 2 (50 per cent) out of 4 Independent MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Party wise sitting MLAs with serious criminal cases: 35 (30 per cent) out of 118 MLAs from BJP, 13 (19 per cent) out of 67 MLAs from INC and 8 (27 per cent) out of 30 MLAs from JD(S) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Financial background:
Crorepati MLAs: Out of 219 sitting MLAs analysed , 209 (95 per cent) are crorepatis.
Party wise crorepati MLAs: 112 (95 per cent) out of 118 MLAs from BJP, 65 (97 per cent) out of 67 MLAs from INC, 28 (93 per cent) out of 30 MLAs from JD(S) and 4 (100 per cent) Independent MLAs have declared assets valued more than Rs 1 crore.
Average assets: The average of assets per sitting MLA is Rs.29.85 crore.
Party wise average assets: The average assets per MLA for 118 BJP MLAs analysed is Rs.19.60 crores, 67 INC MLAs analysed is Rs.48.58 crores, 30 JD(S) MLAs analysed is Rs.26.87 crores and 4 Independent MLAs have average assets of Rs.40.92 crores.
Other details:
Age details of MLAs: 80 (37 per cent) MLAs have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 138 (63 per cent) MLAs have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years. 1 MLA has declared his age above 80 years.
Gender details of MLAs: Out of 219 MLAs analysed, 9 (4 per cent) MLAs are women.
