Varanasi, Oct 6: As the temple town of Varanasi boiled in protests over ban on idol immersions in Ganga and lathicharge on Monday, Oct 5, nearly 50 persons were arrested on Tuesday and authorities maintained a tight vigil.

Following a day full of protests and curfew, schools, colleges and other institutions remain closed in Varanasi today, as a matter of caution.
