New Delhi, June 5: As the annual World Environment Day is being observed across the world on Friday, June 5, in India Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a 'Kadamb' (Neolamarckia Cadamba) sapling at his official residence.

"Living in harmony with nature is the only way to avoid a catastrophic situation on mother earth," he said, while urging every family in the country to plant trees in the upcoming monsoon season. [OneIndia goes 'Green' on World Environment Day]

In Kozhikode, Kerala, More than 30,000 plants and saplings were planted by cadets and children at the Indian Naval Academy at nearby Ezhimala.

Vice Admiral P Ajit Kumar, Commandant, INA, inaugurated the tree plantation drive in which senior Naval Officers and their families actively took part. [Why World Environment Day is so important for all of us?]

As part of the afforestation drive and 'Go-Green' endeavour, the naval station planted various types of fruit bearing, non-fruit bearing, medicinal, herbal and decorative plants, a release from INA said.
