In Nagaland assets of some MLAs have risen by 6870%

The assets of the 47 re-contesting MLAs in Nagaland have increased in the range of 0.1 per centt to 6870 pre cent an analysis shows.
Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Nagaland Election Watch have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 53 re-contesting MLAs in the Nagaland Assembly Election 2023. Out of the 53 re-contesting MLAs, assets of 47 MLAs (89 per cent) have increased ranging from 0.1 per cent to 6870 per cent and assets of 6 MLAs (11per cent) have decreased ranging from -1 per centt to -90per cent.

Assets of MLAs:
Average Assets in 2018 Elections: The average assets of these 53 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various parties including independents in 2018 was Rs 5.46 Crores.
Average Assets in 2023 Elections: The average asset of these 53 re-contesting MLAs in 2023 is Rs 7.10 Crores.
Average Asset growth in 5 years (2018-2023): The average asset growth for these 53 re- contesting MLAs, between the Nagaland Assembly Elections of 2018 and 2023 is Rs 1.64 Crores.
Percentage growth in 5 years (2018-2023): Average percentage growth in assets for these 53 re-contesting MLAs is 30per cent.
Top 5 Re-contesting MLAs with highest asset increase (Rupees- wise)
B.S. Nganlang Phom of NDPP from Tamlu (ST) constituency has declared maximum increase in assets with an increase of Rs 15.05 Crores i.e from Rs 21.91 Lakhs in 2018 to Rs. 15.27 Crores in 2023.
Assets of Neiphiu Rio of NDPP from Northern Angami-II (ST) constituency has increased by Rs 10.53 Crores, from Rs 36.41 Crores in 2018 to Rs 46.95 Crores in 2023.
Assets of H. Tovihoto Ayemi of BJP from Dimapur-I constituency have risen by Rs 7.49 Crores, from Rs 1.78 Crore in 2018 to Rs 9.27 Crores in 2023.
Nagaland Elections:
The Nagaland assembly has 60 members with the magic number being 31. The major political parties in Nagaland include the Naga People's Front, National Democratic Progressive Party, Indian National Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Naga insurgency has been a major issue in Nagaland and several political parties have taken a different view on the matter. The state has a large Christian population and play a major role in the political discourse in the state.
