IIT Guwahati Expands Global Reach: Four New MoUs for Academic Excellence
IIT Guwahati has taken a significant step towards enhancing its global presence by signing four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with renowned international educational institutions. These collaborations aim to establish academic programs and facilitate student exchanges, providing students with diverse learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth.
Guwahati, March 5: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has taken a significant step towards enhancing its global academic presence by signing four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with renowned international educational institutions. These collaborations aim to establish joint academic programmes, facilitate student exchanges, and foster research collaborations.

Collaboration with Dalhousie University, Canada
IIT Guwahati has joined hands with Dalhousie University, Canada, to establish a joint doctoral programme. This partnership will provide students with the opportunity to pursue a PhD under the joint supervision of faculty members from both institutions. The MoU was signed by Professor Rajeev Ahuja, officiating director of IIT Guwahati, and Professor P Balakrishnan from Dalhousie University.
MoUs with Gifu University, Japan
IIT Guwahati has also signed three MoUs with Gifu University, Japan, to establish various academic programmes and initiatives. One of the MoUs establishes an International Joint PhD Programme, where scholars will receive guidance and mentorship from faculty members of both universities during their dissertation work. The research progress will be evaluated by a multidisciplinary team of experts, ensuring rigorous academic standards and fostering innovative research outcomes.
Another MoU between IIT Guwahati and Gifu University paves the way for a two-year International Masters Joint Degree Programme in Food Science and Technology. This programme aims to address challenges in building a sustainable society by optimising resource utilisation and benefiting both regions.
Furthermore, IIT Guwahati and Gifu University have collaborated to establish a Global Expert Programme, an international joint-certificate initiative under the Inter-University Exchange Project (IUEP). This programme enables students to obtain certification from both universities as exchange students, promoting cross-cultural learning and enhancing global competencies.
Recognition and Honour
In recognition of his contributions to academic collaboration, Professor Kazuhiro Yoshida, president of Gifu University, was bestowed with the position of Honorary Professor at IIT Guwahati. This honour acknowledges Professor Yoshida's dedication to fostering international academic partnerships.
The signing of these MoUs marks a significant milestone for IIT Guwahati in its pursuit of academic excellence and global collaboration. These partnerships will provide students with diverse learning experiences, opportunities for growth, and exposure to cutting-edge research.
