ICG seizes 1,500 kgs heroin worth Rs 3,500 cr off Gujarat coast

The search operation for the suspect vessel at sea was started by the ships and aircraft of the coastal guard on July 27.

In a major crackdown on smuggling syndicate, Coast Guard Ship Samudra Pavak on Saturday detained a Panama ship carrying ,1500 kgs heroine worth Rs 3,500 from a merchant vessel off Gujarat coast.

According to the sources, the coastal guard received information from intelligence sources that a big consignment of narcotics drugs was likely to enter Mumbai and Gujarat.

Meanwhile, Special Task Force of Kolkata Police has detained younger brother of Captain Suprit Tiwari, whose merchant vessel was allegedly carrying heroin.

Sujit has allegedly received Rs 100 crore on behalf of his brother, said a senior police official, reports Economic Times.

Acting on a tip-off the officials have cracked upon the smuggling syndicate and the ship used for the act was brought to Porbandar on Sunday.Eight crew members all Indians have been arrested.

A joint investigation has been launched by Indian Coastal Guard, police, customs departments to ascertain the origin and final destination of the shipment.
