IAS officer’s death: Govt notifies CBI

Bengaluru, March 24: The Karnataka government has issued a notification handing over the probe into the death of IAS officer D K Ravi to the CBI. In an order dated March 24 the under secretary in the Karnataka Home Department ordered the CBI probe.

The notification which is sent to the union home ministry also states that the CBI shall take over the probe within three months of the order being issued.

CBI probe after pressure

Chief minister Siddaramaiah who had come under immense pressure from the. Opposition announced on the floor of the house yesterday that the government has decided to hand over the probe to the CBI.

With the notification now being issued the union home ministry would notify the CBI to officially take over the probe. A team of the CBI from the Chennai wing is likely to take over the probe. Chennai houses the homicide wing of the CBI and hence would conduct the probe.

Some officers of the Hyderabad wing may be roped in also if there is forensic examination needed. Hyderabad houses the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory and the CBI gets its analysis done here.

Sources say that the process may take another week. The CBI on commencement of the probe will issue notices to various witnesses in the case. It would also first speak to officers of the CID which has been probing the case till now.
