IAF Marks 93 Years with Humor and Heroism: From Balakot Tiramisu to Operation Sindoor Tributes

The Indian Air Force (IAF) recently celebrated its 93rd anniversary with a unique twist. A dinner menu from the event gained attention online, not for its culinary offerings, but for its humorous nod to military operations. The menu, titled "93 Years of IAF: Infallible, Impervious and Precise," cleverly referenced key locations targeted during India's military actions against Pakistan.

Among the dishes were Rawalpindi Chicken Tikka Masala and Rafiqui Rhara Mutton. These names playfully alluded to significant sites involved in operations like the 2019 Balakot airstrike and the recent Operation Sindoor. The dessert section continued this theme with items such as Balakot Tiramisu and Muzaffarabad Kulfi Faluda, referencing areas linked to terrorist strongholds.

Operation Sindoor's Impact

Operation Sindoor, executed on May 7 this year, focused on nine major terrorist hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Targets included Muridke and Bahawalpur, known as bases for Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Precision strikes also hit Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bhimber, Rawalakot, and Neelum Valley.

The Balakot airstrike on February 26, 2019, was a direct response to the Pulwama terror attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel. This strike successfully destroyed a Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Air Force Day Parade Highlights

This year's Air Force Day parade at Hindon Air Base on October 8 showcased the IAF's might with aircraft like Rafale, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, MiG-29, C-17 Globemaster III, C-130J Hercules, and Apache helicopters. The indigenous Netra AEW&C system and Akash Missile System were also part of the display.

A tribute was paid to Operation Sindoor during the parade. It featured a static display of the recently retired MiG-21 Bison aircraft, honouring its six decades of service to the nation.
