'Mother Will Give Everything To Her Child': Shivakumar Before Leaving For Delhi

Reiterating that he is a party man, Karnataka Congress Chief D K Shivakumar on Tuesday said that he will not "backstab" even if the high command overlooks him and make Siddaramaiah the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

"Ours is a united house, our number is 135. I don't want to divide anyone here. Whether they like me or not, I am a responsible man. I will not backstab and I will not blackmail," ANI quoted him as saying before leaving for Delhi. He was supposed to go to the national capital on Monday but he cancelled his trip citing health issues.

He said that his next challenge is to win 20 seats for Congress in Karnataka in the Lok Sabha polls next year.

"The Party is my god...We have built this party, I am a part of it and I am not alone in this," he further stated. "We have built this party (Congress), we have built this house. I am a part of it...A mother will give everything to her child," the Congress state chief added.

The Congress central leadership will announce the name of the next Karnataka Chief Minister on Tuesday evening. "A decision on Karnataka's CM candidate will be announced by tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon. Both Siddahramaiah and D K Shivakumar will be in Delhi for meeting with the party president Mallikarjun Kharge. Observers have spoken to the MLAs and submitted their report," Eshwar Khandre, Karnataka Congress Working President, told reporters.

Speaking to NDTV on Monday evening, Shivakumar claimed that Sonia Gandhi and the party leadership know that he will not rebel against them even if he is not made the Chief Minister. However, he pointed out that the decision is left to the senior leaders.

"I am sitting in Bengaluru and doing my regular responsibility. You should have the basic courtesy, a bit of gratitude. They should have the courtesy to acknowledge who is behind the win," he told the channel.

Congress has registered a resounding victory in Karnataka in the Assembly elections by winning 135 seats. The BJP has managed to bag just 66 while JDS was reduced to 19.
