Hyderabad, June 23: When dialing 100 didn't work, a 24-year-old woman made a desperate attempt to save herself. She turned to social networking site Facebook and urged people to rescue her.

The young girl was confined by her parents who wanted her to get married. She accused her family members of forcing to marry against her wishes.

She informed that she initially had sought help from police but cops advised her to listen to her parents. Then she asked for help posting a message on a Facebook group -- Spread the Word.

She wrote that her family was forcing her to marry against her wishes and was keeping her confined. Soon after her post on Facebook, people started contacting her through the details provided on Facebook.

According to reports, many even recharged her mobile Internet pack, so that she can be in touch with people through Facebook.

One of the women, who helped the 24-year-old girl, was quoted as saying, "When we started speaking to her after the Facebook post, we got to know that she was being forced to marry a 38-year-old against her wishes. She briefed us about the plans of her brother and parents. It was decided by a group of women to rescue her from her home."

A group of women, who posed as co-workers of the girl, approached her parents and convinced them that they needed her at the school for a while.

Later they filed a police complaint against the parents of the girl under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 341 (wrongful restraint).

The post on Facebook has been deleted as the girl refused to disclose her identity. According to sources, now she is staying with one of her friends.
