Hyderabad: Rise In Water Level In Musi River Causes Severe Waterlogging Due To Heavy Rains

Heavy rainfall caused severe waterlogging in several parts of Hyderabad after the level of water level in Musi River rises to Moosarambagh bridge. All the academic institutes were declared holiday by the district magistrate.

The rising level of water in the Musi River due to incessant rainfall led to the closure of Moosarambagh Bridge on Tuesday. However, it was later reopened to traffic on Wednesday.

Approximately 6,000 cusecs of water from the Osmansagar and Himayathsagar reservoirs were released into the Musi River that led to the rise of water level in the river.

Moosarambagh Bridge was temporarily closed as a precautionary step to prevent waterlogging in the low-lying areas around the Musi River.

Earlier on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert while light to moderate showers was forecasted by the Hyderabad Met Department. However, an orange alert has been issued in some districts of Telangana today.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Mancherial, Jagityal, Rajanna Sirsilla, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, and Wanaparthi.

Residents are advised to stay indoors except for an emergency situation. Reportedly, more than 3,000 personnel are deployed to clear the waterlogged areas across the city.

A helpline number 040-21111111 or 9000113667 has been issued for GHMC-DRF assistance to contact in emergency situation.

Apart from Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Kerala and Mahe may also be affected by heavy rains during September 4-8.
