A 26-year-old woman named Triveni died after being set on fire in Hyderabad’s Nallakunta area, according to police. The incident happened inside the family’s rented home during the early hours of Wednesday, December 24. Police said Triveni’s husband, Venkatesh, allegedly poured petrol on Triveni and burned Triveni in front of their two children.

Doctors at the hospital declared Triveni dead soon after admission, while daughter Sathvika received treatment for minor burn injuries. Hyderabad Police arrested Venkatesh on charges of murder under Section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Officers also recorded formal statements from the couple’s two children, who reportedly witnessed the attack.

According to police, Venkatesh often accused Triveni of having extra-marital affairs, which led to frequent fights at home. Triveni earlier left for her parents’ place because of the harassment. She returned to Nallakunta only after Venkatesh promised to change behaviour and assured that such quarrels would stop.

During the clash, Venkatesh allegedly doused Triveni with petrol and set Triveni on fire. A neighbour noticed flames and smoke coming from the home and raised an alarm. Residents helped rescue Triveni and Sathvika from inside and rushed both to a nearby hospital. Doctors said Triveni had suffered severe burns and could not be saved, while Sathvika’s burns were limited and are being managed under observation.
