Hyderabad: Doctors perform Havan in hospital sparks outrage
In an attempt to lower death rates in this hospital, a Havan was conducted in a ward at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad. The organiser were a senior doctor and contributions came from several staff members.
A 'Mruthyunjaya Homam' was performed for the welfare of expecting mothers and their babies. Its a vedic ritual performed to avoid untimely death.
The havan was conducted by four priests, in which several professors and students were also seen participating.
However, the Homam drew a lot of from unions and media, and a committee has been formed to investigate into the matter The doctors have now been asked by the hospital's superintendent to not hold such rituals in the hospital anymore.
