Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express on Thursday, marking another milestone in India's railway development. An official from the South Eastern Railway confirmed this exciting news, stating that the ceremony will take place tomorrow. The inauguration will witness the presence of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at Puri station, the starting point of the train's maiden journey, as reported by the news agency PTI.

At approximately 1 pm, the Prime Minister will remotely flag off the Howrah-Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express from Puri station, showcasing the country's commitment to modernizing its rail infrastructure. This high-profile launch is part of the government's efforts to enhance connectivity and passenger experience across various regions.

The Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express will be West Bengal's second Vande Bharat Express, following the successful introduction of the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri route. The first Vande Bharat Express for West Bengal was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30, 2022.

The train will start from Howrah at 6:10 am and will be back to Howrah at 8:30pm with a two-minute stoppage at Kharagpur from 7:38am to 7:40 am in the up direction. The train will arrive in Puri at 12:35pm and will start from Puri at 1:50pm towards Howrah. The train, with 16 coaches, will stop at Kharagpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur Keonjhar Road, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Khurda Road, the official said.

At present, the fastest train connecting Howrah and Puri is Shatabdi Express. It takes 07:35 hrs to cover a distance of 502 kms. The Vande Bharat Express is likely to cover the same distance in less than seven hours.

As per reports, the Howrah Puri Vande Bharat express train will cost around Rs 1,395 for a single journey in AC Chair Car class and Rs 2,515 for Exec. Chair Car (EC).

Travel agents have expressed optimism about the train's popularity, as Puri is not only a revered pilgrimage site but also a sought-after beach resort town. Known as the abode of Lord Jagannath, Puri attracts a considerable number of tourists from Bengal, particularly Kolkata and its surrounding areas.
