How Sumitra Mahajan dealt with the tricky issue of presentation of budget
Know why Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan allowed the presentation of the Union Budget 2017 after the opposition demanded to postpone it
New Delhi, Feb 1: As the opposition has stood united demanding the postponement of tabulation of the Union Budget 2017 on Wednesday, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has dealt with the 'tricky' issue with great finesse.
The opposition demanded the postponement of presentation of the budget in the wake of the death of former union minister and sitting parliamentarian E Ahamed on Wednesday.

However, Mahajan gave permission to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to go ahead with the presentation of the budget.
"We have to keep in mind that the budget is a constitutional obligation. We have present the budget as scheduled," Mahajan told reporters outside Parliament.
The senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader added, "Saddened by E Ahamed ji's demise, but the budget will be presented."
The Lok Sabha session on Wednesday started after Mahajan paid obituary to Ahamed.
"I would have adjourned the house, but today's sitting has been fixed by President of India Pranab Mukherjee for presentation of the Union Budget 2017," Mahajan said in the Lok Sabha.
