How Many States Does BJP Rule After Historic Delhi Win? Full List of BJP & Congress - Ruled States -Jan 2025

In a landmark victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power in Delhi after more than 26 years, securing a two-thirds majority. The party's triumph saw it claim 48 out of 70 seats, leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) trailing far behind with just 22, as per the Election Commission's website.

The elections, widely perceived as a direct contest between the BJP and AAP, marked a significant shift in Delhi's political landscape. The BJP's hyper-localised campaign, combined with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aggressive 'AAP-da' (disaster) rhetoric, played a decisive role in the win.

For AAP, which held a commanding majority with 62 seats in the previous Assembly, this defeat marks a major setback. Meanwhile, the Congress-once a dominant force in Delhi under Sheila Dikshit's 15-year rule - failed to secure even a single seat for the third consecutive election, with most of its candidates losing their deposits.

With Delhi now under its control, the BJP has further consolidated its presence across India. A total of 16 states it is in power as on January 2025.
