Chennai, Dec 14: Another case of an alleged ISIS recruit has been reported from Tamil Nadu. The first known ISIS recruit from India, Haja Fakkruddin was a resident of Tamil another case.

Now the National Investigating Agency is probing a Tanjavur resident, Mohammad Naseer for allegedly being part of the ISIS.

How did Tanjavur youth land in ISIS web?

Naseer was deported from Sudan recently. As per the preliminary investigation, Naseer was working in Oman, but had reached Sudan allegedly to be part of the ISIS.

The NIA is still finding out how he managed to reach Sudan and also exploring the possibility of a new route that these persons may be taking.

In the case of Haja, he went to Singapore on a work visa and from their left for Syria. He is still believed to be in Syria, NIA officials suspect.

The route into the ISIS

The NIA has been dealing with several cases pertaining to ISIS recruits. In most of the cases it has been found that Indian recruits reach a foreign country on a work permit and then are launched into Syria or Iraq. The NIA suspects that the same could have happened in the case of Naseer as well.

We are still understanding the recruitment pattern and here too it appears that the radicalisation could have taken place on the internet like has been in all other cases, the NIA official also states.

Intelligence Bureau officials have often warned that South India has been a favoured destination for the ISIS. While the Haja Fakkruddin case was an example of this, it may also be recalled that it was from Tamil Nadu that another case in which youth sporting ISIS t-shirts had been circulated on the social media.
