How Akhilesh by campaigning for rape accused leader proving PM Modi’s allegations right

Reports say UP CM Akhilesh Yadav is going to campaign for rape accused SP leader Gayatri Prajapati in Amethi on Monday.

Lucknow, Feb 20: One issue that has hogged the limelight in the recent few days in the high-voltage Uttar Pradesh election campaign is the rise in rape cases in the state. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the ruling Samajwadi Party government under Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of shielding the rape accused.

"Rapists are given a free hand and women have to knock the doors of the Supreme Court for justice--What work have you done Akhilesh ji? Your minister is in a rape case. This is not 'kaam' (work) but 'kaarnama' (deed)," said PM Modi.

Modi's remark was made in connection with the apex court's ruling to file an FIR against former minister and rape accused SP leader Gayatri Prajapati. "Akhilesh ji you started your election campaign by campaigning for Gayatri Prajapati... the people of UP want to know if your SP-Congress alliance is as pure as Gayatri Prajapati," PM Modi added.

In fact, UP CM began his campaign for the state with Prajapati by his side in Sultanpur. Reports say, on Monday Akhilesh will campaign for Prajapati, who is contesting elections from Amethi constituency. Prajapati is also the sitting SP legislator from Amethi.

A senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader from UP, Srikant Sharma, told ANI on Monday that Prajapati has not been arrested despite serious charges against him.

The state police on Saturday filed an FIR against Prajapati in connection with cases of alleged rape and blackmailing. The SC on Friday ordered registration of an FIR against him based on the complaint of the victim, a social activist. Earlier, union minister Smriti Irani called the SP a 'protector of rapists'.
