How 217 students were rescued as Pak resorted to firing

In a daring operation conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir police and district administration, 217 students and 15 teachers trapped in schools near the Line of Control were rescued.

The students and teachers were trapped in the schools as Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling of mortars. Officials say that a school in Nowshera was hit in the shelling, but fortunately there were no casualties.

It was a daring operation that was carried out by the administration. There were 5 bulletproof vehicles and three buses that were pressed in service. Avoiding the shelling and entering the school buildings to rescue the children and teachers was a task in itself. The students were trapped for over six hours as the schools in the area were shut indefinitely.

Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, district commissioner, Rajouri said that bullet proof vehicles and buses were deputed. Students were trapped in various schools and each of them had to be rescued. Meanwhile the students and teachers showed great courage which made the operation easier for the officials. The operation at a school in Sair was difficult as there were 55 students who were trapped in it.
