Honeymoon Couple from Uttar Pradesh Goes Missing in Sikkim After Vehicle Plunges into Teesta River

A couple from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, who recently married, vanished during their honeymoon in Sikkim. Their vehicle reportedly fell into the Teesta River amid heavy rain, officials reported on Tuesday. A search operation is underway to locate them. The incident occurred on May 29 while they were travelling from Lachen to Lachung. Nine people, including the couple and their driver, remain missing.

The groom, Kaushalendra Pratap Singh, aged 29, is related to BJP leader Ummed Singh. He wed Ankita Singh, 26, daughter of Vijay Singh Dubbu from Dhangadh Sarai Chivlaha village, on May 5. According to Kaushalendra's uncle Dinesh Singh, the couple departed for Sikkim by train on May 25 and arrived in Mangan district on May 26.

Search Operation Underway

While returning from Lachen on May 29, their vehicle reportedly plunged into the river amidst heavy rainfall. Besides the newlyweds, seven other tourists were in the vehicle: two from Uttar Pradesh, two from Tripura, and four from Odisha, along with a local driver. All remain unaccounted for.

Dinesh Singh stated that despite ongoing efforts by SDRF and NDRF teams, no bodies or survivors have been discovered yet. Family members of the missing couple have travelled to Sikkim and met senior police officers, including DIG Akshay Sachdeva and the area's SP.

Family's Desperate Wait

"While their belongings were recovered from the hotel, there is no conclusive evidence yet to confirm whether they drowned in the river. The family back home is devastated and hoping for a miracle," he said.

The family remains hopeful despite the lack of evidence confirming their fate. They are anxiously waiting for any news regarding their loved ones' whereabouts as search operations continue in challenging conditions.
