Homosexuals are are 'genetically handicapped' people: Subramanian Swamy
New Delhi, June 30: Hours after news reports started doing the rounds that Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda reportedly hinted - and later clarified that he was misquoted - that the controversial Section 377 of the IPC could be scrapped, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said "homos" are genetically handicapped.
Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code criminalises homosexuality and Swamy claimed it to be party's official stand.
"I think the law minister was misquoted. Our party position has been that homosexuality is a genetic disorder," Swamy told ANI.

Swamy's statement prompted a Twitter user, Hocus @GentleGawker, who asked: "@Swamy39 Sir, better word is genetic variation. Nothing wrong. Just like tall and short. They deserve all respect."

To this the BJP leader's replied: "@GentleGawker: Issue is not respect. We respect handicapped persons. Homos are genetically handicapped."
Earlier in the day, news reports claimed union law minister Sadananda Gowda has said that India could abolish Sec 377 and that legislation for same sex marriages could be considered.
[India could abolish Sec 377, says Union law minister Sadananda Gowda]
But he soon denied making the statement, and claimed he was misquoted.
"I was misquoted, I never said that Sec 377 of IPC maybe scrapped. Topic was on USA legalizing same sex marriage, I just said such decisions would need wide discussions in India.
