Hizbul Mujahideen re-branded poses biggest threat in Jammu and Kashmir

The terrorist group that has been most active in Jammu and Kashmir off late has been the Hizbul Mujahideen. With funds of 800 million US dollars raised in the past decade, the outfit has re-branded itself and is looking as lethal as ever.

With a combination of youth, technology and experience, the Hizbul Mujahideen is looking to take complete control over Jammu and Kashmir.

The Hizbul Mujahideen which followed an old style of warfare three years back, re-branded itself and took an entirely new approach while carrying out is operations. It roped in young blood into the outfit who ensured that the outfit became tech savvy as well.

The re-branding of the Hizbul Mujahideen:

Today in Jammu and Kashmir, the threat perception is highest from the Hizbul Mujahideen and not the Lashkar-e-Tayiba-e-Tayiba or Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Although the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammad are appearing to coming together, Intelligence Bureau officials say that the highest threat perception is from the Hizbul Mujahideen today.

The Hizbul Mujahideen unlike the Lashkar-e-Tayiba or the Jaish have tried to move away from the conventional warfare.

The Hizbul Mujahideen has realised the importance of propaganda and seems to be doing that with perfection. Most of the social media accounts in the Jammu and Kashmir area are run by commanders of the Hizbul Mujahideen.

What the group is attempting to do is launch a propaganda war so that they are able to rope in more youth into their fold. It is a very ISIS styled operation, where there is more propaganda than action, an IB official said. Roping in the young has paid off for the Hizbul Mujahideen, the official also adds.

Hizbul Mujahideen the richest outfit:

With youth and experience on its side, the Hizbul Mujahideen today is the richest outfit in Jammu and Kashmir. The propaganda that it managed to create has ensured a free flow of funds from across the world.

While Pakistan continues to be the biggest donor for the Hizbul Mujahideen, funds have come in from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and even the Western nations.

The funds are extensively used to run the outfit.The spending is on military uniform, arms and medical expenses. However it has been found that the largest spending is on communication.

The communication skills of the Hizbul Mujahideen have kept the intelligence officials on their toes. There is constant chatter by the Hizbul Mujahideen cadres which has helped them plan strikes and also a propaganda war.
