Kharge Pays Tribute to Manmohan Singh: A Visionary Statesman and Economic Reformer

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away at AIIMS, Delhi, on Thursday night at the age of 92. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute to Singh, calling him a visionary statesman and an economist of unmatched stature. Kharge highlighted Singh's significant role in India's economic reforms and his enduring legacy in promoting growth and inclusivity.

Kharge Remembers Manmohan Singhs Legacy

Kharge expressed deep sorrow over Singh's passing, describing him as a gentle intellectual and humble soul who embodied India's aspirations. He praised Singh's unwavering dedication as he rose through the ranks, contributing immensely to nation-building. "Undoubtedly, history shall judge you kindly, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji!" Kharge stated in a post on X.

Legacy of Economic Reforms

Singh's policy of economic liberalisation and rights-based welfare significantly transformed the lives of millions in India. His efforts virtually created a middle class and lifted many out of poverty. Kharge noted that Singh's contributions would forever be etched in Indian history, acknowledging his own pride in serving under Singh as Labour Minister, Railway Minister, and Social Welfare Minister.

The Congress president extended heartfelt condolences to Singh's family, friends, and admirers during this time of grief. He wished them strength to cope with the loss. "His enduring legacy of ushering in India's growth, welfare, and policies of inclusivity will forever be cherished," Kharge added.

Final Moments

AIIMS announced Singh's death after he was admitted to the Emergency ward around 8:30 pm due to critical health conditions. An AIIMS bulletin revealed that he had been treated for age-related medical issues and experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26.

Kharge concluded by expressing his hope for Singh's soul to rest in eternal peace. The nation mourns the loss of a leader whose integrity and vision left an indelible mark on India's development trajectory.
