Hindutva, development: Will Yogi Adityanath deliver the goods in UP
In the appointment of Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has sent out a loud message to the voters that it wants to pursue the winning formula of Hindutva and development. The caste equations also add up in this appointment for the BJP. Yogi is a Thakur and his deputies Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma belong to the OBC and Brahmin communities respectively.

Yogi for the BJP became the ideal candidate due to his influence over the voter. There are absolutely no corruption charges against him and he is a polarising factor in UP. However for Yogi the big challenge would be to earn the confidence of the Muslims who form 19 per cent of the electorate in UP. He has often said that he is not against Muslims, but against the appeasement policies. It would be interesting to see how Yogi handles the Muslims in UP.
He has often said in his speeches that he believes in Hindutva and development. Hindutva and Bhautic Vikas have been his preferred slogans in all his speeches. The challenge ahead fo Yogi is huge. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a lot of expectations from his chief minister in UP. For Modi winning UP again in 2019 would be crucial if he needs to get a second term as PM. For this Yogi would have to balance a lot of factors that would include development, keeping the Muslims happy and Hindutva.
