Himachal Pradesh Government Commits to Meeting Medical Colleges' Facility Requests, Says CM Sukhu

The Himachal Pradesh government is committed to enhancing medical facilities, as stated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. He emphasised that medical colleges are encouraged to express their needs for improved infrastructure, with assurances that all requests will be addressed. The Tanda Medical College is set to receive upgrades with advanced technology and modern amenities.

CM Sukhu Promises Support for Medical Colleges

During the inauguration of a new section at the trauma centre of Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda, Kangra district, Sukhu highlighted the college's significance. It caters to nearly half of the state's healthcare requirements, serving approximately 5.89 lakh patients annually. This newly inaugurated section was developed at a cost of Rs 10.27 crore.

Investment in Healthcare Infrastructure

The financial breakdown for the new trauma centre section includes Rs 6 crore allocated for machinery and equipment, Rs 1.5 crore for construction, and Rs 2.77 crore for other services. The centre has sanctioned 95 posts across various categories, with 72 positions already filled, while recruitment for the remaining roles is ongoing.

In a review meeting with health officers, Sukhu announced plans for a high-end laboratory at Tanda Medical College. Preparations for this facility are currently in progress. He reiterated the state government's commitment to providing superior medical services and prioritising both education and healthcare sectors.

Advancements in Medical Procedures

New procedures have been successfully implemented in the cardiology department at Tanda Medical College. These include valve replacements, congenital heart defect repairs, and heart tumour surgeries. Additionally, renal denervation has been introduced as part of the college's expanding medical capabilities.

Looking ahead, Sukhu discussed future investments such as installing PET scan machines and robotic surgery facilities at Tanda Medical College. The state government is collaborating with AIIMS to acquire modern medical equipment to further enhance healthcare services.

Recruitment and Expansion Plans

Departments with high patient volumes will see expansions in both personnel and facilities. Walk-in interviews are being conducted to recruit doctors and improve the doctor-to-patient ratio. Recruitment of nurses and paramedical staff is also underway to bolster healthcare delivery.

The state government plans to construct new quarters to provide better residential facilities for college staff. This initiative aims to improve living conditions and support staff retention at Tanda Medical College.

"We can't provide the best care with outdated technology," Sukhu stated, highlighting the importance of modernising medical facilities. He assured that every demand from medical colleges would be met by the government to ensure top-notch healthcare services.
