Himachal Pradesh CM Denies Resignation Speculation As Congress Turmoil Persists
Amid the shock of yesterday's Rajya Sabha election loss, Himachal Pradesh finds itself embroiled in a crisis for the Congress.
Six MLAs were involved in cross-voting, while three independents previously aligned with the ruling party shifted allegiance to the BJP, casting doubt on the government's majority status.

Himachal CM Denies Resignation
Here are the key points in this significant development:
1. On Wednesday afternoon, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu dismissed rumours of his resignation, asserting that neither has he been asked to resign nor has he offered his resignation. He vowed to prove his government's majority and accused the BJP of spreading rumours to destabilize the party before the budget session, as reported by ANI.
2. Allegations emerged that the BJP aims to induce a split in the Congress by luring its MLAs to join their ranks. However, Sukhu claimed that some of the lawmakers who had cross-voted were attempting to return to the Congress fold.
3. Amid speculation that the BJP would demand a floor test to ascertain the government's majority, the Congress has dispatched three observers to manage the crisis.
4. The Congress, initially with 40 MLAs, risks losing its majority if the six cross-voters defect. Conversely, the BJP, with 25 MLAs, could potentially reach the majority mark with the support of independents.
5. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh labelled the cross-voting as unfortunate and vowed to identify those responsible. He emphasized the priority of saving the Congress government, hinting at potential leadership changes if necessary, as per ANI reports.
6. BJP leader Jairam Thakur demanded Sukhu's resignation, citing the party's alleged lack of a majority. He claimed support from nine opposition MLAs, further complicating the situation.
7. The Assembly Speaker's decision to expel 15 BJP MLAs for misconduct altered the effective strength of the House, potentially affecting the majority calculus.
8. The outcome of the political turmoil in Himachal Pradesh will have broader implications for the Congress and the opposition INDIA bloc ahead of the upcoming general elections.
In summary, the cross-voting controversy and subsequent political manoeuvring have thrown Himachal Pradesh into a state of uncertainty, with the fate of the Congress government hanging in the balance.
