Himachal Man Gets Shocking Rs 210 Crore Electricity Bill, Later Rectified To Rs 4000

A businessman from Beherwin Jattan village in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district was left stunned when he received an electricity bill of Rs 210 crore.

Lalit Dhiman was shocked to find the bill for December 2024 amounted to Rs 2,10,42,08,405, despite having paid only Rs 2,500 the previous month.

Upon visiting the electricity board office to complain, Dhiman was informed that the exorbitant bill was the result of a technical glitch. The issue was rectified, and the bill was subsequently reduced to Rs 4,047.

In a similar incident last year, a tailor from Valsad, Gujarat, was sent an electricity bill that was higher than the value of his shop.

Muslim Ansari, who operated the shop with his uncle, was shocked to receive a bill for Rs 86 lakh. After Ansari raised the issue, discom officials visited his shop and inspected the meter.

It was discovered that two digits - 10 - had been mistakenly added to the meter reading, resulting in the inflated bill.
