Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Struggles with Bureaucratic Control Amid Officer Absences
Jai Ram Thakur, the Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh, has raised concerns about Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's diminishing influence over the state's bureaucracy. Thakur alleged that several officers are skipping crucial meetings and distancing themselves from the government. He made these remarks while visiting his Seraj Assembly constituency.

Thakur claimed that the bureaucracy is becoming increasingly arrogant, citing a recent incident where many officers did not attend a meeting called by the finance secretary. This, according to him, suggests that the chief minister lacks control over his officers. He also mentioned that those who did attend were not serious, as they believe the Congress-led government lacks longevity.
Bureaucratic Challenges and Political Criticism
The former chief minister highlighted achievements during his tenure, such as securing Rs 1,546.40 crore in financial aid from the Centre for a major ropeway project in Shimla. He attributed this success to the double-engine government model. Thakur's comments reflect ongoing political tensions in the state.
Meanwhile, Sikender Kumar, BJP general secretary and Rajya Sabha member, criticised the Congress government for imposing additional financial burdens on citizens under the guise of resource mobilisation. He accused them of levying cess and other duties on mining activities, which he believes are unfair to the people.
BJP's Membership Drive and Political Strategies
Kumar announced that the BJP's active membership campaign would commence on October 16 and conclude on October 31. This initiative aims to strengthen the party's base in Himachal Pradesh amid ongoing political challenges and criticisms of the current government.
The political landscape in Himachal Pradesh remains dynamic with opposition leaders voicing concerns about governance and bureaucratic efficiency. The BJP continues to strategise its approach to counteract perceived shortcomings of the Congress-led administration.
