Hijack threat call: Security tightened at Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad airports
After receiving the bomb threat, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad airport have been put on hijack alert.
The security at the Chennai Airport has been tightened following a hijack threat call which was received on Sunday. According to the information received, the hijack will be carried out by a team of 23 people, which have led the security agencies to put other airports on high alert.
According to sources, an email was sent by a woman who overheard 6 boys discussing a plan to simultaneously carry out hijacks from Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad airports.
Meanwhile, CISF jawans are patrolling the airport premises with loaded weapons, and Central Intel has also received a tip that terrorist organizations might attempt to hijack an airplane.
A similar hijack attempt was made in London-bound Air India flight in January 2015. the Central Industrial Security Force or CISF, which is in charge of security at the country's airports, had reviewed its procedures. Anti-hijack drills were held at airports and communication lines with the police and security agencies were also checked.
