New Delhi, Aug 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his maiden speech at Red Fort as the nation celebrated its 68th Independence Day on Friday, Aug 15, 2014.

Here are the highlights of Modi's speech at Red Fort:

1. All previous governments have a hand in developing India. State governments have a hand in it as well. I offer my respect to all previous governments and Prime Ministers.
2. We don't believe in the force of majority. We worked with everyone. The credit for this goes not to the PM but the MPs and the opposition.
3. Don't kill daughters in the womb, it is a blot on 21st century India. I have seen families where one daughter serves parents more than five sons.
4. As parents, have we asked our sons where he is going? Why not put same yardstick for sons too?
5. Let us think about zero defect - that our products are not defective - and zero effect - that our products have no adverse effect on the environment.
6. I tell the world - come, make in India. Sell anywhere but manufacture here. We have the skill and the talent.
7. In a short span of time, we will start a new institution that will work in place of the Planning Commission
