Here is where Karunanidhi will be laid to rest at Marina

Chennai, Aug 8: The Madras High Court in its order today said that the Tamil Nadu government should provide a place for decent burial to lay the mortal remains of Karunanidhi at the Marina Beach.

During the hearing the DMK had provided a sketch indicating the place at which Karunanidhi would be laid to rest. The court said that the burial place would be made available in consonance with the rough sketch provided by the petitioner.

The court also said that such exercise shall be carried out by the respondent authorities forthwith. The DMK scored a major victory after it won the case against the government of Tamil Nadu, which had objected to the burial at the Marina. The government has now accepted the order and said that it would not appeal.

In its order, the HC said, "Upon hearing the learned senior counsel on either side and considering the entire conspectus of the matter, the writ petition is allowed with a direction to the respondent authorities to provide a place for decent burial to lay the mortal remains of (Late) Dr Kalaignar M Karunanidhi, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on the Marina Beach, within the precincts of the burial place of the founder of DMK party and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, (Late) Annadurai, namely at Anna Memorial, at Kamraj Salai, Chennai- 600005, in consonance with the rough sketch provided by the petitioner. Such exercise shall be carried out by the respondent authorities forthwith."
