Hemant Soren Sent To 5-Day ED Custody

Hemant Soren, the former chief minister of Jharkhand and the executive president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 31st January in a money laundering case related to the alleged land scam. He was produced before a PMLA court on 1st February and sent to 5-day ED custody. Enforcement Directorate had asked for 10 days remand for the former CM of Jharkhand.

After facing a seven-hour interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case, Hemant Soren underwent a medical check-up at the ED office, according to officials.

Sources informed PTI that during the ED questioning, the 48-year-old Hemant Soren provided "evasive" responses, leading to his detention under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency reportedly presented 15 questions to Soren during the second round of inquiry in the case.

    Following the interrogation, Soren submitted his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhavan and was subsequently taken into custody. Hemant Soren, who assumed the position of the state's youngest chief minister with the support of the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in 2013, had initially been questioned on January 20.
