HDFC Bank Viral Video Shows Employee Seen Misbehaving With Customer; Social Media Reacts

A routine visit to an HDFC Bank branch in Kanpur spiralled into chaos after a heated argument between a bank employee and a customer was caught on camera and shared widely online. The video, filmed inside the Panki branch, has since triggered outrage over alleged misconduct and caste-based remarks.

The 43-second viral video shows a female employee rising from her desk, visibly agitated, hurling abuses at a customer and gesturing aggressively with her laptop. At one point, she appears to move towards the man in a confrontational manner, as other customers look on.

What has fuelled the strongest backlash is a statement heard in the video where the employee allegedly says, "I am a Thakur," a remark many social media users have interpreted as an attempt to intimidate the customer by invoking caste identity. The exchange, marked by shouting and profanity, disrupted normal banking operations and created an uncomfortable scene inside the branch.

Multiple media reports have identified the employee as Aastha Singh. However, the exact circumstances that led to the argument remain unclear, with only the video clip shaping public perception so far.

The footage spread rapidly across platforms such as X, drawing sharp criticism from users who called the behaviour unprofessional and unacceptable in a customer-facing role. Several posts tagged HDFC Bank, urging the private lender to conduct an internal inquiry and take strict action.

As of now, HDFC Bank has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. No police complaint has been registered, and there is no confirmation of any disciplinary action being initiated.
