HC stays Karnataka govt’s decision to ban pillion on 100 cc bikes
Those with 100 cc bikes can breathe easy and take a pillion rider along with them. The Karnataka High Court has stayed an order of the government which banned riding pillion on bikes that are 100 cc or less.

The court also stayed another circular of the government which had banned registration of and use of sub 100 cc two wheelers with pillion seats.
Justice BV Nagarathna also stayed the operation of the contentious Rule 143(3) of the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (KMV) Rules, 1989 -the genesis for the two circulars dated October 13 and October 23 -till the government comes out with the amendment to the rule.
Earlier, additional advocate general A S Ponnanna informed the court that the government, which had issued the circulars based on the observations made by the HC in a motor vehicle accident case, is contemplating amending the rule.
