Kidnapping and Ransom Demand
The abducted boy, Deepak, was taken from Chandni Chowk locality on February 14 by five men known to the family. The motive behind the kidnapping was extortion, as the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from Deepak's father, Dinesh Shah. Shah, a JCB driver working in Mumbai, had been planning to purchase a JCB machine through a bank loan. However, his neighbors assumed he had a significant amount of money and conspired to kidnap his son to extract a ransom.
Police Action and Confession
Upon receiving the ransom call, Deepak's mother, Chameli Devi, who had previously filed a missing person report, informed the Chalkusha police. Acting swiftly on the information, the police apprehended five individuals. Initially, the accused denied involvement in the kidnapping, but during interrogation, they confessed to killing the boy and disposing of his body in Tilaiya Dam. The body has yet to be recovered due to the dam's deep water.

An NDRF team from Ranchi has been called in to assist in locating the boy's body. Meanwhile, the police are conducting raids to apprehend the actual masterminds behind the kidnapping. Superintendent of Police (SP) Arvind Kumar Singh assured the bereaved family that the police would soon apprehend the culprits and urged the protesters to disperse. He also revealed that the kidnappers were not professional criminals but committed the crime out of greed to extort money from Shah.
